Sometimes after having children a woman can feel a little less desirable due to the body changing during pregnancy and after child birth. The idea of a Mommy Makeover is to restore the body back to its original appearance pre-pregnancy. A typical Mommy Makeover might include a breast uplift or augmentation, a tummy tuck and liposuction on the arms or the legs.
Am I a good candidate for a Mommy Makeover?
There are a few questions you can ask yourself when considering a Mommy Makeover:
Have your breasts started to sag, or are they uneven with less volume?
Do you have excess fat around your love handles, hips and thighs?
Is your waistline less defined due to lose skin?
Your breasts are out of proportion with your body due to the size change during pregnancy?
If the answer is yes to the above, then you could be the ideal candidate for a Mommy Makeover. Always remember if you are planning to undergo surgery you will need to be in good health, have a positive attitude and have realistic expectations.
What each procedure does:
Breast uplift or augmentation
A breast lift is a procedure where the breasts are lifted to treat uneven, sagging breasts to give back a refreshed youthful look. An augmentation is where the size of the breast can be enlarged. Some women go for the breast uplift and augmentation together as this restores lift and volume in one.
A tummy tuck is a procedure that removes excess skin, making the abdomen thinner and more firm giving a smooth finish. It includes an incision being made from hip to hip however this will be made on the natural crease of the tummy.
Liposuction is a procedure that breaks down fat and removes it from the problem areas. It can help shape your body into a more desirable figure as by removing the fat helps contour the body. This is great for the Mommy Makeover as it after a tummy tuck and breast augmentation you may feel the need to smooth the outlines of your body to give you more flawless look.
How to prepare for a Mommy Makeover
Before undergoing a Mommy Makeover you will have your pre op meetings with your chosen surgeon and they will ensure you are prepared for your surgery and will perform any physical medical exams needed. Your surgeon may advise that you need to reach a certain weight before surgery can go ahead or may advise that you need to make some life style changes. If this is the case, always ensure you try your hardest to reach these goals to get optimum results from your surgery. Below is a list of things to help you prepare for your Mommy Makeover:
Ensure your diet is good and you are healthy in the coming months before your surgery.
Try and exercise a little every day to get your body in its best form.
Ensure you are at your desired weight before your surgery and are maintaining this weight.
Try to cut alcohol out of your diet for around a month before, if you are unable to do so, at least cut down as much as you can.
Stop smoking 6 weeks before to help the healing process after surgery.
Most importantly you will need a caregiver to help tend your wounds, prepare food, keep you clean, and support you while you move around so ensure you take this into consideration and plan appropriately. Lifting, driving, laundry, and cleaning are things you must avoid at all costs.
Your home must be post-surgery fit. You may need to prepare this by moving things around like books on a high shelf etc.
How long will the results last?
The idea of this procedure is to gain permanent results. Should you get pregnant or gain a lot of weight however your results may not last.
Always go to your follow up appointments and try to maintain a relationship with the plastic surgery, so should you have any questions or worries you can always ask.
